Getting a handle on debt issues is vital for new home buyers. Taking on the responsibility of a home loan is a big leap when compared to the average consumer credit debt. If you are thinking about debt management and you have just bought a new home or you are looking for a new home then there are some priorities that are not completely in focus.

By its very nature debt management plans are designed to help those who are having trouble with paying back loans or managing their debts. This often come hand and hand with bad credit issues.
Candidates for Debt Management
Those who are good candidates for debt management programs are consumers who;
- cannot make the minimums payments on their credit card debt
- are always late paying one or more of their monthly bills
- are being called by creditors and collection agencies
- have not worked out some sort of repayment plan with their creditors
- behind in paying their bills
- facing health problems
- have job issues or
- do not have enough money to make ends meet on a monthly basis.
So anyone considering making such a large purchase as a home when they are in this condition should stop and make an assessment of their financial goals and put them in proper order.
Advice for those Considering Debt Management and Purchasing a New Home
If you have just bought a new home or are contemplating the purchase of a new home and you fit into the above mentioned categories here are some tips you should think about before going into debt management:
- Stop making unnecessary purchases, reduce your expenses and cut expenses anywhere you can.
- Write down all of your debt on a piece of paper. Include house payments or rent, car notes, credit card bills, other consumer debts and student loans. This list must have the name, address and phone number of your lenders and the balance of what you owe them and the last time you paid them.
- On a separate piece of paper list the normal utility bills that you pay, car insurance payments, health insurance payments, phone bill, food bills and anything else you pay for monthly.
- Call a reputable credit counselling firm to help you find out what solutions and options are available for you.
Important Note
An important note to remember is don’t call or respond to those debt relief posters, commercials on late night television, or spam emails you receive. These agency take advantage of those in need and will use all of your equity and may leave you in worse financial shape then before you called, only deal with reputable companies. List of good companies may be found on government websites or good banks can steer you to a good service.
